Addressing the risk of heel breakdown
One of the problems of bedridden patients is skin breakdown on boney prominences. If the skin breaks down, it can lead to a full blown pressure injury. It is much wiser to prevent the breakdown than to try to cure it.
How does it work?
The BIG Foot Floater has two functions. First, use it unfolded for patients who are elderly and cannot be elevated over three inches because of discomfort. The knees are supported, and the heels are off the mattress, thus protecting the heels. Second, keep the BIG Foot Floater folded and it gives a height of 4.5 inches for use with patients with edematous legs and feet and it floats the heels off the mattress. A pillow can be placed under the knees to add support if needed.

In the past, caregivers would use rolled-up blankets or pillows to put under patients. These would become flat over time thus causing discomfort and skin breakdown. Think Medical Foot Floaters don’t have this problem! It’s made from a durable foam, blue nylon patient side and a low slip vinyl bottom that stays in place. The BIG Foot Floater can be terminally cleaned and reused over and over thus saving time and money.
